Skin Cancer Awareness in Construction
Why It Matters:
- Outdoor workers receive up to 8 times more UV exposure than indoor workers.
- Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland and the UK.
- Early detection saves lives — most skin cancers are treatable if caught early.
Know the Warning Signs:
Be alert for:
- New or changing moles or freckles
- Sores that don’t heal or bleed
- Lumps or patches that are red, pale, or scaly
- Dark spots that grow or change in shape
- Itchy, tender, or painful areas on sun-exposed skin
Check exposed areas: face, ears, neck, arms, and hands.
If you’re ever worried, always speak to your doctor. It’s better to check early.
Protect Yourself:
- Wear long sleeves, wide-brim hats, and sunglasses
- Use SPF 30+ sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours
- Take regular breaks in the shade
