38kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation located in the heart of Dublin 4, near Shelbourne Greyhound Stadium.
Scope of Works included: demolition & site preparation, new in situ-concrete framed single-storey over basement building, incorporating two MV GIS switch rooms, battery room, control room, and other facilities. Specialist work included 13m deep sheet-piled cofferdam with extensive management and treatment of groundwater discharge. Dealing with different grades f contaminated material. Installation of LV/MV electrical systems, power ducting, compound lighting, and mechanical services. House transformer and associated acoustic barriers. Installation of earth grid, surface water drainage, and utility chambers.
Work took place in a busy residential and commercial zone, required meticulous planning for the delivery of large precast concrete units, structural steel, and cofferdam equipment via a narrow access route. Dust, noise, vibration, and water monitoring safeguarded neighbouring properties were deployed throughout.
Regular engagement with local residents, businesses, Dublin City Council, and Uisce Éireann ensured project transparency, minimised disruption, and full compliance with discharge license requirements.
This project demonstrates our team’s capability to deliver highly technical infrastructure projects safely and efficiently within constrained urban environments.
