Kilwex are delighted to announce that we have achieved completion on the Bawnogue District Centre Enhancement Project, delivered on behalf of South Dublin County Council.
Located in Bawnogue, Clondalkin, the project focused on improving safety, accessibility, and the overall quality of the public realm for the local community.
The works included:
- Roadways: Speed tables, carriageway resurfacing, and junction radius narrowing
- Cycle Facilities: Installation of Sheffield bike stands
- Pedestrian Facilities: Shared-use pavements with new block paving and street furniture, including public lighting, bins, and a chess table
- Public Lighting: New lighting installed throughout the scheme
- Drainage: Rain gardens to support sustainable urban drainage
- Car Park: Reconfigured to create more pedestrian priority and green space
Net Zero & Sustainability
As part of our commitment to net zero, Kilwex reconstituted existing paving at the shopfronts of Bawnogue Shopping Centre, reducing the need for new materials and lowering embodied carbon. The scheme also incorporates native planting within the rain gardens and landscaped areas, supporting local biodiversity, improving resilience to climate conditions, and reducing long-term maintenance and water demand. Native species also enhance urban cooling and contribute to healthier, more sustainable public spaces.
A big thank you to the Council, our subcontractors and suppliers, local residents, and all stakeholders who worked with us to deliver a fantastic new space for the people of Bawnogue
