Rosslare Europort is the only Irish seaport on the southern corridor of the Irish Sea and serves a number of major shipping lines, operating services between Ireland and mainland Europe. It is Ireland’s number one port for direct RoRo/Pax services to Europe, and is in the process of becoming an Offshore Renewable Energy Hub for the country.
This project was broadly subdivided into two elements of works – (i) demolition and (ii) reconstruction/ infrastructure enhancement and upgrade.
Demolition of the following structures – overhead passenger walkway, railway bridge steelwork and buried ground beams, existing paving and rail ballast, rail access platform.
Construction of the following elements – HV cable ducts for power cables to the existing substation, new surface water drainage, kerbs and crash barriers, rigid and flexible pavements, street furniture, ramp and access stairs.
The project also facilitated the installation of new 10kV power cables in the new HV ducts by a 3rd party contractor, in a phased sequence of works. Temporary works designed and constructed to maintain safe passenger access to the vessels, protect the public from the works and allow the terminal to operate unrestricted at all times.
Existing terminal platform demolition included asbestos removal by a licensed specialist. Work around existing live electrical services was planned, co-ordinated and programmed with ESB.
