This project involved widening/realignment and extension of the existing Gateway Crescent carriageway as well as construction of an additional right turning lane on Main Street. The project included laying 900mm diameter surface water pipe (some by way of a heading underneath an existing apartment block), 800mm diameter ductile iron water main as well as numerous existing utility diversions and construction of other new piped and ducted services. Speed tables/plateaus were constructed at all junctions using granite slabs and coloured asphalt. Granite kerbing, modular block paved parking areas and footpaths were also installed. Alterations to the existing traffic signals were carried out at the main street junction. Project phasing and traffic management had to cater for continued access to numerous commercial and residential premises throughout the work.
