Kilwex Ltd. successfully delivered the Bawnogue District Centre Sustainable Urban Mobility and Public Realm Enhancement Works in Clondalkin on behalf of South Dublin County Council, transforming the local district centre through improved active-travel infrastructure, upgraded public realm, and integrated sustainable drainage solutions.
Delivered under a PW-CF5 Public Works Contract, the project involved the comprehensive renewal of roadways, footpaths, and civic spaces within a constrained live urban environment adjacent to Bawnogue Road and the local shopping centre. The works included new high-quality paving and segregated cycle infrastructure, installation of three signal-controlled pedestrian and shared crossings, upgraded surface water drainage with rain-garden SuDS features, energy-efficient public lighting, enhanced bus stop facilities with accessible boarding, and reconfigured car-parking infrastructure to better support local businesses and community use.
Construction was carefully phased to maintain continuous traffic and pedestrian movement, uninterrupted access to surrounding residential and commercial properties, and safe coordination around live underground utilities. A dedicated Public Liaison Officer ensured proactive communication with residents, businesses, and stakeholders, enabling the scheme to progress efficiently while minimising disruption to the surrounding community.
Completed on programme and within budget, the project demonstrates Kilwex’s capability in delivering sustainable, community-focused urban infrastructure that enhances accessibility, safety, and long-term place quality within complex operational environments. on, Kilwex maintained live traffic flows, uninterrupted access to residential and commercial properties, and effective stakeholder engagement through proactive communication and dedicated public liaison. The successful delivery of this scheme demonstrates Kilwex’s capability in managing complex urban infrastructure projects, integrating safety, stakeholder coordination, and programme certainty within high-traffic environments.
